The People's Republic of China (PRC) made a voluntary contribution to the budget of the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on 1 December 2023. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Zhang Xiao presented a symbolic check to the CICA Secretary General Ambassador Kairat Sarybay at the Secretariat office in Astana.
Ambassador Kairat Sarybay expressed gratitude to the Government of the People's Republic of China for their continuous cooperation and support of CICA initiatives. He noted that the voluntary contribution is perceived not only as financial support, but also as an expression of the political will of the PRC Government to strengthen the capacity of the CICA for the purpose of active interaction to ensure peace and cooperation in Asia.
Ambassador Zhang Xiao emphasized that political and financial support from the PRC have been constant aspects of the Chinese Government's strategy since the establishment of the CICA. The Ambassador also noted that the goals and principles of the CICA correspond to the basic principles of China's foreign policy.
China supports the evolution of CICA into a full-fledged international organization and calls for its further development. China's voluntary contribution is seen as an affirmation of this commitment.
The PRC actively participates in the practical implementation of CICA Confidence-Building Measures and is a coordinator in the priority areas of “Finance” and “Agriculture”, as well as a co-coordinator in the priority areas of “Security of ICT and their uses”, “Epidemiological safety, public health and pharmaceuticals”, “Development of secure and effective systems of transportation corridors", "Environment protection", and in the human dimension.
The CICA Secretariat expresses gratitude to the PRC for its support and commitment to continuing cooperation to ensure security and harmony in the region.
