Astana, 18 November 2023 — In an engaging and insightful presentation held at Nazarbayev University, Mr Doulat Kuanyshev, a distinguished representative of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and the Organization’s expert in its military-political dimension of interaction, shared valuable perspectives on the history, purpose and functions of CICA, highlighting its current goal of institutional transformation.
The presentation and open discussion provided an in-depth exploration of CICA's origins, its primary objectives in promoting peace and stability in Asia, and the practical methodology employed in addressing regional challenges. A significant portion of the presentation was dedicated to highlighting Kazakhstan's contributions and leadership within CICA, showcasing the nation's proactive stance in regional diplomacy.
The event, attended by students from the public policy, international relations and political science departments of the university, delved into the 31-year long history of CICA, emphasizing its relevance in today's global context and its practical applications in the field of public policy and international relations.
Mr Kuanyshev remarked, “The importance of CICA in today's global context cannot be overstated. The pursuit of peace and stability remains a shared responsibility, and organizations like CICA provide a key platform for collaborative efforts.”
The presentation concluded with an invitation for further discussions and questions, allowing attendees to engage in a meaningful dialogue on regional diplomacy and the role of CICA. Students also inquired about Mr Kuanyshev’s extensive career as a diplomat and within the government of Kazakhstan.
