The Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) hosted a ceremony on 15 November 2023 where Türkiye made its voluntary contribution to CICA activities.
A symbolic check was handed over to CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr Mustafa Kapucu at the office of the CICA Secretariat.
Türkiye is the third-largest voluntary contributor to the CICA Secretariat budget.
Speaking at the ceremony, the CICA Secretary General expressed gratitude to the Government of Türkiye for this significant gesture and highlighted Türkiye's role as a founding member and a steadfast partner. The CICA Member States, under the Chairmanship of Türkiye started negotiations on a draft CICA Plan of Action on the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. The Plan was adopted last year at the Sixth CICA Summit in Astana, becoming a historic achievement aimed at implementing this Strategy voluntarily in the CICA region.
During the Turkish Chairmanship, pivotal advisory bodies were established, such as the CICA Business Council. The 2010 CICA Summit in Istanbul was particularly noteworthy as it witnessed the first synergistic gathering of CICA and the OSCE.
Ambassador Kapucu stated, that Türkiye supports the further evolution of CICA into a full-fledged international organization.
Türkiye is very committed to supporting CICA's efforts in maintaining peace, stability and sustainable development in the region. “In our world full of uncertainties, we believe multilateral platforms such as CICA are even more needed. Indeed, Türkiye’s Asia Anew Initiative is also in line with CICA’s collective vision of ensuring security and sustainable development in Asia,” said the Turkish high-rank diplomat.
Ambassador Kapucu emphasized that Türkiye proudly allocates its voluntary contribution to CICA, envisioning a stronger CICA for a more peaceful region. The transformation process is underway, aligned with CICA's confidence building objectives.
The CICA Secretariat looks forward to continued fruitful cooperation with Türkiye in the interest of development and prosperity in Asia.
