 CICA discusses prospects for cooperation in digital economy

 An international online forum titled “Opportunities for Cooperation of the  Member States of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in the Field of Digitalization of the Economy” was held on 9 September 2021.

The forum was attended by heads of government agencies, line experts and specialists from 14 CICA Member States, including Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Thailand, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

“The relevance of the chosen topic is evident against the background of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which caused a decline in the economic development of all countries, without exception. In this regard, the Member States have an excellent opportunity to consult with each other, share both positive and negative experiences of digitalization, develop mutually beneficial cooperation at the CICA platform,” said CICA Deputy Executive Director Chi Fang in her welcoming remarks.

Bakhytzhan Makazhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of DAMU Entrepreneurship Development Fund JSC, also welcomed the participants and guests of the forum, sharing his experience in digitalization of business processes supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. “Thanks to the implementation of a comprehensive development strategy, the Fund was able to continue its activities in the context of the pandemic and timely provide online support to business,” said Mr Makazhanov.

The forum participants discussed the following topics: “Actions in progress and main problems in the CICA Member States in the field of digitalization”, “Actions of state support for SMEs to stimulate digital transformation of activities” and “Development of e-commerce in the CICA Member States. Prospects for cooperation”.

The event was addressed by representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry and the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Digital Transformation Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Small Industries Corporation (India), the SME Corporation (Russia), Summit Bank (Pakistan), China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME), Alibaba Cloud Intelligence (China) and others.

The presentations made by the participants were accompanied by interesting questions, discussions, additional remarks, which contributed to the active exchange of views and experience.

The forum participants agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation in the field of economic digitalization, which would help not only to fight the pandemic, but also to open up new opportunities for further development.

The event was moderated by Ulan Oraztayev, Managing Director of Baiterek NMH JSC, and Pavel Koktyshev, CEO of AIFC Fintech Hub.

The event was held within the framework of Kazakhstan's Chairmanship in CICA. The forum was organized by the DAMU Entrepreneurship Development Fund with the assistance of the CICA Secretariat.
