Topical issues of combating dust and sand storms were discussed at the specialized meetings for representatives of environmental organizations of the CICA Member States on 1 September 2021.

The virtual event was initiated by Iran as coordinator in the area of natural disaster management. Professors from the Shahid Beheshti University and the Kharazmi University made presentations on the assessment of socio-economic damage caused by dust in Iran.

Participants of the event discussed the possibilities of developing sustainable tools for assessing the real damage caused by dust storms. Iranian speakers called for closer and stronger cooperation at the expert level, as well as for the exchange of best practices against sand and dust storms.

The participants noted that increased interaction was critical to counter the negative effects of dust storms on social life and expressed appreciation to CICA for the provided platform.
