It is a pleasure and an honour for me to be present here today, for the first time, with esteemed CICA colleagues, after Sri Lanka’s accession to Full Member of CICA from Observer Status. Sri Lanka is very grateful to all Member States of CICA for unreservedly conferring such a status on us. I would like to congratulate Republic of Tajikistan, on behalf of Sri Lanka, for assuming CICA chairmanship after Republic of China. Excellencies, Sri Lanka will work closely with the new chairmanship and CICA Member States in fulfilling its objectives in achieving peace, security and stability in Asia by enhancing bilateral cooperation, promoting economic cooperation and trade, as well as people-to-people contacts among the CICA members.
Sri Lanka recognizes the importance of the implementation of the Specific Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) as a fundamental tool for achieving CICA priorities and in this context, we envisage in co-coordinating a CICA activity for strengthening of Confidence Building Measures. Excellencies, I am confident that Sri Lanka would be able to contribute to CICA process effectively. Thank you.
