On December 3, 2019 Executive Director of the CICA Secretariat Mr. Habibullo Mirzozoda held a meeting with First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Shakhrat Nuryshev.
Current status as well as the prospects of CICA development and the progress in implementation of mandates given by the Heads of States at the Fifth CICA Summit in Dushanbe (June 15, 2019) were discussed during the meeting.
Mr. Nuryshev noted that the initiative of convening the CICA as an effective platform for promoting peace, security and stability in Asia, was suggested by H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and continues to be the focus of Ministry's attention. He emphasized that Kazakhstan will continue institutionally, financially and intellectually support the CICA process. Mr. Nuryshev has called on all the CICA Member States to contribute to the much needed reform in the CICA; to enhance its status of the Forum; to enrich its activity with new projects that would encourage more inclusive and more active involvement of all CICA participants into decision making and implementation process. He also proposed to promote CICA through more active coverage of CICA activities in mass media, social networks and by more active representation of the Forum at international events. Mr. Nuryshev stressed that CICA Catalogue of Confidence Building Measures may play an instrumental role in achieving these goals.
The Executive Director of the CICA Secretariat Mr. Habibullo Mirzozoda briefed the interlocutor about the preparations for the CICA Senior Officials Committee meeting (SOC) which is planned to be convened in December 2019 in Chongqing, People’s Republic of China. He also informed that a meeting of “troika” consisting of previous, acting and upcoming CICA Chairmanships will be held in the eve of SOC meeting to maintain institutional memory and continuity in the CICA work. Mr. Habibullo Mirzozoda stated that the Third Conference of the CICA Non-Governmental Forum will be convened along with SOC. He also stressed that he supports the idea of expanding geographical affiliation of the Secretariat's personnel to ensure more adequate representation of CICA Member States. He mentioned that Republic of Tajikistan is committed to the policy of strengthening regional cooperation and becomes increasingly involved in these processes. In 2020, the Republic of Tajikistan will assume Chairmanship of IFAS (International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea) which is an important forum uniting all Central Asian states.
Parties agreed to continue joint efforts to unleash the CICA's full potential to fulfill its capacity of multinational platform whose values are confidence, cooperation and security in Asia.
