President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev had a meeting with Heads of Foreign missions accredited to the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana on 17 February 2015.
In his statement, President covered a wide spectrum of issues relating to both the current international situation and the foreign policy pursued by Kazakhstan. He also reminded about Kazakhstan initiatives in the field of international security. President mentioned the important role of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which was established by his initiative in October 1992 and the necessity to transform CICA in full-fledged international organization.
Special attention was paid to the need to strengthen global security system based on the basic principles of international law with full compliance by all States without exception to their respective obligations under international treaties and agreements. At the same time emphasis was made on the need to work together at all levels - global, regional, sub-regional, and so on, taking into account indivisibility of all aspects of security. UN should have key role in coordination of this activity.
With regard to combating international terrorism and extremism, President Nursultan Nazarbayev reiterated that this evil has become a global problem and the entire world community should fight it. Only on the basis of a strong intercultural and interreligious dialogue, it is possible to successfully oppose extremism, radicalism and terrorism.
President stressed that amid confrontation and today's security challenges in the background of the ongoing financial crisis, political decisions on the settlement of international conflicts in all parts of the world should be based on closer economic cooperation of States. He also mentioned the willingness to build and strengthen partnership relations to enhance the economic, investment and technological cooperation with other countries on bilateral basis and within the framework of regional organizations.
In conclusion, President Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that Kazakhstan fully supports the activities of the Diplomatic Corps and expressed his hope for the development of relations with states and organizations they represent.
