| On 26-27 May 2010 First Chiefs of Police Meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was held in Antalya, Republic of Turkey.
This Meeting was organized by the National Police of Turkey. Fourteen Member States and six Observers of a Forum attended the Meeting. The Executive Director of the CICA Secretariat Ambassador Dulat Bakishev addressed the Meeting with a welcoming statement.
The Meeting considered current issues, regarding the activity of police agencies in fighting organised crime for the purpose of effective interaction and development of a collective response to the new challenges and threats. In accordance with the CICA Catalogue of CBMs, implementation of necessary measures in the area of new challenges and threats is coordinated by Turkey jointly with Afghanistan. The Action Plan in this area was approved by the Member States in 2008.
During discussions the reports of representatives of Member States and Observers of CICA on the activity in four areas of interaction were considered: combating terrorism; illegal traffic of drugs; human trafficking; and issues of border control. The basic attention was paid to facilitating information exchange and close cooperation among National Police Agencies of the Member States. It is expected that in the near future the CICA programs, including training and capacity building of the experts, will be organized.
Following the results of the Meeting the Declaration, providing measures for effective counteraction to contemporary threats, was approved. Participants agreed to organize the Second Chiefs of Police Meeting in 2012. |
